Online entries close 2 October 2011
- a one of a kind 84km road event for 50+'ers only.
Friday, 7 October 2011
Parys, Free State, Petit Paris
Come on Grandpa and Grandma, there are even cash prizes up for grabs!

John Wright's latest work of art is a medal in the shape of a champagne cork, which will serve to remind participants in the Road Master Blaster for cyclists aged 50+ of their adventures. John says he choose the champagne cork theme because the Master Blaster is a celebration of life and vitality for athletes who are not prepared to retire to the armchair.

Starting Time: 08:30, Friday 7 October

The route description:

Opposite direction than 2010

The Master Blaster route will run from Silhouette Arena, Parys towards the famous Ertjiesberg on Fochville road, then left to Potchefstroom and then run back left to Parys to make a total of 84km. The climb was named after, Ertjies Bezuidenhout of yester-year cycling fame. Probably the only climb in SA officially named after a cyclist. As you see, in 2009 we also did the climb from the easier back side of the mountain as opposed to the steeper front.

FAQ

When am I a 50+'er?

The Master Blaster event caters for 6 categories. Age 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65+, ladies 50+ and ladies 60+. If you are 49 years old in October, but are turning 50 in October, November or December after the event you are considered a 50+er.

I am not 50+ yet but would like to ride with a friend that has entered the event. Would it be possible?

The event is staged as different events for different age categories and there is prize money up for grabs. It is important to not have younger riders in older category groups and therefore the organisers will not allow any such aplications. Older riders will however be able to join jounger age groups if they would like to.

My friend/wife/husband is in a younger age category than myself. Can he/she join me in my age category?

Unfortunately we can only allow the older of the 2 riders to join the younger partner in his/her group?

I am a lady rider - must I start with the ladies category or am I allowed to join another men's category?

We would like to always encourage the fun aspect of our masters tour and will allow ladies to join their husbands/friends but no husbands/male friends will be allowed to join the ladies group. If you choose to not start with the ladies group, please remember that you will not be in contension for prize money.

My wife is 48 years old and I am 53, we would like to ride the event on the tandem. Would it be possible for us to participate?

Unfortunately people under the age of 50 will not be able to participate in the event. Tandems are welcome to participate in the Road Master Blaster, provided they are both older than 50 and start with the younger of the 2 riders age category group.

Will the event organisers ever consider to include younger veteran age categories in future?

Unfortunately this option is not on the agenda of the organisers. They are just to stubborn and unflexible when it comes to these kind of decisions.
